The Garden This Year

While these cherries are not from our garden, we are blessed with free cherries every year. My husband picks up the wood each year that the men would have to stand around and burn all day long. They think we are doing them a favor while they are actually the one’s doing us a favor. They give us free wood and then free apples and free cherries from the orchards around here each year.  I believe the kids and Dad have picked 10 boxes this year. Many were split due to the rain so we are worried about how they are going to profit this year.

These strawberries are from our garden. Many, many daughter plants came from the original 240 plants or so that my husband planted last year. Our freezer is full and we delight in having them in our smoothies, for freezer jam and the pies I still need to make. We are into raspberries too so I made a raspberry cobbler the other day.  : )

My homemade raw tahini…. I’ll have to post the recipe next time. It’s delicious.

Our turnips have won us over more than anything this year. We cannot indulge in these enough. We cook the greens lightly in just a tad of water and steam the turnips separately. Lots of butter on both and a little parmesan on the greens and it makes for such a healthy and wonderful addition to your main meal.

Every afternoon while the littles are napping, the kids help out Dad in the garden. They even helped Dad pick some raspberries at 8:00 last night before bed as we didn’t want to lose any. They especially love to help Dad at night before heading to bed to read.

  1. What wonderful produce! And a well kept garden! And being blessed with all those cherries! We love having a garden and have enjoyed so much this year already too. God has blessed mightily. Blessings!

  2. Those flowers are works of art! Oh my when I see such a beautiful creation by God that I’ve never seen before- what JOY it brings. He creates such wondrous beauty! I am in awe of those flowers!! They remind me of our State Flower The Lady Slipper. It only grows wild and I believe its an orchid. But these flowers you have are even more stunning! PRAISE God!!
Oh my to be able to have such a lovely garden! You are making us hungry :o)
When we go up north our kids never come inside! Love seeing your sun kissed fresh faced children enjoying the beauty!
    ((((HUGS))))

    • We’ll have to see if they dry well without falling all apart and send you some. I’ll really try to remember to have the kids pick some before they are gone with the season!
